Loving a God You Don’t Understand

There are moments in faith when God’s ways make no sense. You believe in Him but you do not understand why certain things happened or why prayers went unanswered. You love God yet feel confused by Him at the same time. That tension can feel uncomfortable and even frightening.

But not understanding God does not mean you cannot love Him.

Scripture reminds us in Isaiah 55:8 to 9 My thoughts are not your thoughts neither are your ways My ways declares the Lord As the heavens are higher than the earth so are My ways higher than your ways God never promised full explanations. He promised His presence.

Many people in the Bible loved God deeply without understanding His plan. Job questioned God through intense suffering. He never received a detailed explanation for his pain yet he declared I know that my Redeemer lives Job 19:25 His faith rested not in answers but in who God was.

Loving God without understanding Him requires trust. Proverbs 3:5 tells us Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding Faith begins where understanding ends. It is choosing to believe that God’s heart is good even when His ways are unclear.

Even the disciples walked with Jesus and still did not understand everything He did. In John 13:7 Jesus said You do not realize now what I am doing but later you will understand There are things God allows now that will only make sense later or perhaps not until eternity.

God is not offended by your questions. Psalm 73 shows a man wrestling honestly with God about injustice and confusion. That struggle did not push God away. It brought clarity and renewed trust.

Jesus invites love built on trust not explanation. John 20:29 says Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed Loving God without full understanding is not weak faith. It is deep faith.

If you are in a season where God feels confusing hold onto this truth. His character never changes even when His methods do. Lamentations 3:22 to 23 reminds us that His mercies are new every morning and His faithfulness is great.

You may not understand God right now
But you can still trust Him
And you can still love Him knowing His love for you has never changed.
