The Truth is not malleable. And while it can be very personal, it is not something that can be possessed by this person or that. There is no such thing as ‘my truth’ as opposed to ‘your truth’. There is simply The Truth, and if we do not become reconciled with the Truth, we will never ever really understand life with all its permutations and changes. Truth is not a shape shifter, but it certainly can change a human life. Truth can set you free, can lead you to a place of closure, completion, understanding. Truth is not something we get to define, but it can certainly define us, and show us who we truly are and/or ought to be. There is only one person who could say I am the Truth, and it be genuinely true, and that person is Jesus, the standard by which every human can be measured—and found wanting. He is the standard by which we can know whether a person is not merely human but humane, not merely lovely but truly loving, not merely redeemed but redemptive. We can be imitators of Christ, but we cannot ever fully measure up to Him, any more than we can always be true and truthful.
